Jeffrey L. Silverstein, PhD, is a chemical engineer with more than 30 years of professional experience applying mathematics to the simulation and design of industrial chemical processes. He earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the City University of New York.
His tutoring experience began while he was a college student, when he participated in a community tutoring program helping students in mathematics, chemistry, and physics. He continued tutoring on a part-time basis during his professional career and later served as a professional tutor in mathematics, chemistry, and physics at Bergen Community College.
Dr. Silverstein approaches tutoring as an individualized professional service. Students provide problems they are having difficulty with before each session so that he can review their work, identify areas that need attention, and prepare for the session. His goal is to help students understand the underlying concepts, strengthen their problem-solving skills, and become increasingly able to work independently.
Dr. Silverstein is a member of the National Tutoring Association and is committed to its professional standards for tutoring.
